CCIS Updates
Biological Sciences IT support in the CCIS (Centennial Center for Interdisciplinary Studies)
The design, operation and support of IT services in CCIS is a cooperative effort between Departments of Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Physics, EAS, the Faculty of Sciences Office and AICT and thus the delivery of IT services is provided jointly by these several groups in CCIS.
General Support:
- The Department of Biological Sciences IT staff are responsible for supplying IT services to all Biological Science users requesting Desktop and/or Network support in the CCIS building.
- The IT staff from other departments and the Dean of Science office are responsible for supporting their individual areas.
- The configuration of the security and access control on the wired network in CCIS is a joint effort between departments, the Faculty of Science office and AICT.
- AICT is responsible for all infrastructure hardware that supports the network in the CCIS building.
- All users/devices will have unrestricted access to network services and resources that are either publicly available on campus or the Internet or have been made available specifically to the device/user.
- The access to wireless (WIFI) will be only through the use of UWS (University Wireless Service).
- Dynamic computer addressing (DHCP) will be available through AICT services. Static computer addressing will be available if required.
- We will start registering computer and phone ports on the 1st of April. All ports are required to be registered before they become active.
Network Device Restrictions in CCIS :
- All use of personal WiFi (wireless) routers are banned in the CCIS building. If you are currently using a WiFi Time Capsule for backup then you will be required turn off the wireless capabilities once in the new CCIS building.
- Network devices supplying the following services:
- DNS Services
- DHCP services
- FTP services
- Router services
- Telnet services
- HTTP Services
- All production servers (web, ftp, database servers etc.) are required to be located in the CCIS server room.
- If you plan to move a production server out of your Biosciences lab space it will need to be located in the CCIS server room and rack mountable (no desktops).
- For convenience you will have the option of leaving any servers you own in the Biological Sciences Server room.
- There will be consideration made to house test servers in your CCIS lab or office but test servers will not be accessible from outside the CCIS building.
- NAS (Network Attached Storage) units can be housed in your personal CCIS lab space, although it is highly recommend you use the CCIS server room to house your NAS and have the Biosciences IT staff to manage it.
Desktop Support or Report Network Problems:
- Biological Science users are to contact Biological Science's IT support through the normal access methods (email or phone for now). Biological Science Support hours are M-F 09:00-5:00.
- Biological Sciences IT Staff to contact are:
